Cork Diocesan Youth Council was formed at the beginning of 2003. The formation of a Youth Council was recommended by a Diocesan Youth Review group set up by Bishop Colton.
Since then, the Council has been responsible for the organisation of diocesan and national events, has
been involved in supporting local youth groups, and organising regular training courses.
The Council is made up of members elected by different groups within the Diocese. The president is the
Bishop of Cork, Cloyne and Ross. The Council reports annually to the Cork Coyne and Ross Diocesan
synod.
The Council aims to be representative of the needs of young people in the age group 13 plus and to
liaise with parishes to develop youth projects.
Funding from the Council is made available from the devolved funding scheme administered by CIYD.
CIYD
The Church of Ireland Youth Department is responsible for the development of youth work across the
whole church. The department has three full time members of staff.
Funding for the department is by the Church of Ireland itself and from the Department of Children,
Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth. CIYD organises its own budget and from that distributes
funding to each diocese under the devolved funding scheme.
CIYD organises some annual events such as the youth forum, publishes resources, and staff assist in
the development of youth programmes and training.
